Mars Germany partners with leading providers to gain insights into carbon emissions, fuel consumption, and fuel types, seeking to reduce the environmental impact of the movement of its products.
Thanks to Elain’s technology, Mars now has real-time visibility as well as fuel composition data across multiple fleets and systems, which can be used for improving operational performance and efficiency.
Elain’s system collects data straight from primary sources enhancing data quality, usability, and collaboration with customers and suppliers in the supply chain.
Björn Schlenker, Supply Chain Director at Mars Germany, emphasizes:
“The ongoing innovation in using primary data on CO2 emissions positions Mars as a driving force in logistics sustainability in Germany. By working with Shippeo and Elain, we gain valuable insights to optimize operations and reduce transport emissions.”
Verden, September 2024 – Mars, the global manufacturer of brands like SNICKERS®, TWIX®, and PEDIGREE®, has launched a pioneering project in Germany with Rigterink Logistics Group, Shippeo, and Elain. This initiative seeks to improve transport data accuracy and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
The partnership offers greater transparency on Scope 3 emissions for Mars’ domestic German transportation. Detailed analyses will identify and implement improvements, supporting Mars’ goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050 and by 50% by 2030.
Together with Shippeo and Rigterink, Elain is automating data collection and calculation, enabling precise visualization of emissions per order, recipient, and logistics company. By integrating real-time visibility data from Shippeo and fleet data from Rigterink, and extending to specific fuel type data, the Elain platform provides precise emissions calculations for partial loads, enhancing accuracy of CO2 emission for all partners.
Mars can now report carbon emissions more accurately for transportation moves across Germany. This approach ensures precise fuel consumption measurement and accurate emissions calculation. The integration of primary data simplifies reporting and supports Mars’ commitment to environmental protection. Future collaboration with suppliers aims to reduce the transportation sector’s environmental footprint.
Viet-Anh Pitaval, Head of Business at Elain, comments:
“Partnering with Mars, Rigterink, and Shippeo marks a significant advancement in leveraging data to drive sustainability in logistics. We are dedicated to providing precise emissions data, enabling informed decisions to reduce carbon footprints. This collaboration highlights innovative technology’s role in achieving transparency and fostering a greener future. Looking ahead, our roadmap includes enhancing prediction and analytics to increase efficiency and sustainability in logistics operations.”
